Custard Filled Cornbread

Willy wants to thank his cousin for putting him on to this cornbread/dessert.  Thanks to Marion Cuningham also for her book and the recipe. 

Custard-Filled Cornbread (The Breakfast Book by Marion Cuningham)

                   2 large eggs

                   3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

                   3 tablespoons sugar

                   1/2 teaspoon salt

                   2 cups whole milk

                   1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar

                   1 cup all-purpose flour

                   3/4 cup yellow cornmeal

                   1 teaspoon baking powder

                   1/2 teaspoon baking soda

                   1 cup heavy cream

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter an 8-inch square (or 9-inch round) cake pan that is about 2-inches deep. Put the buttered dish or pan in the oven and let it get hot while you mix the batter.

Put the eggs in a mixing bowl and add the melted butter. Beat until the mixture is well blended. Add the sugar, salt, milk, and vinegar and beat well. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder and baking soda. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, mix just until the batter is smooth and no lumps remain.

Pour the batter into the heated dish, then pour the cream into the center of the batter—don’t stir. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve warm with maple syrup.

Fall Inspiration and How-To’s with Miracle-Gro® and the #Gardenieres!

What's cooking Willy?

Willie is not sure what is cooking but what needs to be cooking is 3 things.

1. The new president needs to be cooking in place of Obama.

2. Arkansas needs to be cooking up a nude coach to replace John L Smith alias- dummy.

3. Willie needs to cook up some stew.

Which of these will get done first. Willie believe it will probably be the stew.

Ice Cream

Nothing like a good dish of homemade ice cream. Willy's wife makes the best vanilla and the best butter finger ice cream that can be made. However, those times come only in mid summer and only a couple of times a year.

Well, what does Willy do in the mean time. Willy drives to the Sonic and pushes the button and asks for a Butter finger Blizzard.

A loud voice comes back and says "You want to make that a butter finger BLAST" emphasis on the blast. Willy had messed up and asked for a blizzard which is a Dairy Queen Version at Sonic which has a blast.

Hog fans have a couple of good games that are cooking up in Razorback territory.  The fans are going to have some fun with Tyler Wilson, Tyler Wilson and Kniles Davis.

Willy hopes that the R & R duo of Romney and Ryan can turn into somehow being Batman and Robin and that they can sweep in and cook up a win in the Presidential election.   It is obvious that something has to change in this country.  We are going to hell in a hand basket.  Whatever that means.

Does anyone truly believe that this country can keep on the same track that it is on at this time and not be in for total doom and destruction.  We must get rid of King Hussein Obama- Sounds like he needs to be running another country.   We have had terrorists with similar names.

What can we do.  We must try the dynamic duo and get Obama out.

Chick-Fil-A - Cooking up Hot and Gay.

Chick-Fil-A is what is hot in Arkansas today and all over the country.  Chicken folks don't mind gay folks.  They just don't believe like they do.

Gay people have to eat to.  Just as well be chicken as each other..... fighting and moaning at each other just makes it hot.  Women and Women and Men and Men just don't work for Willy either.

Central New Jersey - Vacation?

What is cooking with Willy today is a common question.  Well, today Willy is trying to cook up the vacation that Willy will be having in September.  Willy is wanting to go to the North East and one of the places that Willy is thinking about going is New Jersey.

  The research for this trip has brought Willy to http://www.gocentraljersey.com/  for great information about Central New Jersey and all of the things that they have to offer.  This then led Willy to their Facebook page  which will keep Willy current and up to the moment on the things that Willy might want to do while he is in New Jersey.  Don't you just love Facebook as it lets us do this sort of thing and get this kind of local information.   Well between these two sites Willy has really peaked his interest in visiting the Central New Jersey area.

The things to do there are fascinating and Willy believes that he can plan his entire stay in New Jersey simply from these two sites.   Willy is getting excited!  Just going to this New Jersey tourism website made Willy's heart pump.  Willy loves hot air balloons and one of the pictures scrolling is a great shot of hot air balloons in New Jersey.  Yes, this site has all of the things that a visitor needs.  You can get hotel ideas.  You can get ideas for things to do with the kids and you can find out about outdoor and indoor excitement that can be had in New Jersey.

Willy has no question about what is cooking in Arkansas and with the rednecks here.  Everything is cooking.

What does Willy mean.  Willy means that this place is hot.   108 degrees yesterday and been close to that for a week.  Just throw your supper on the sidewalk and you can cook most anything.

What's cooking on the fourth

Willie was lazy this fourth of july and decided he would have someone cook a pork butt for him. 

It was supposed to be ready yesterday evening about 3 o clock.  At bout 10 o'clock willie got a phone call from the man cooking the pork.  He had had a malfunction in the middle of the night and his cooker went cold.  He said that he ruined 20 pork butts.

Willie is glad he wasn't counting on that for a party.  No butt for willy this fourth of july

Willie is home alone because grandma is over at the grand babies house.  Grandson was born tuesdy at 6 o'clock and grandma's at their house taking care she says.  She just wants to be close to her grand baby and not taking care of me.

When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to
pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it.
We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. 'Hey,' I announced to the technician, 'it's open!'
His reply: 'I know. I already got that side.'

Ok, let’s see if Willy can take a shot at all of this and see if he can say something about become.com. 

Willy wants to be able to get to the age where he can wear a  75 and the best yet to come t shirt .  How cool would that be.     As Willy is staying in shape to get to that age he can always wear some great  mens adidas adi rise athletic shoe black cheap and wonderful.   

Willy guesses that Willy  could wear this type of stuff as I jog outside to make it to the epl 6000 propane generator when the nights are long and the lightning strikes and the electricity goes out.   But all kidding and jokes aside Willy has found this site called become.com and this site allows Willy to find some great products and it appears that Willy can compare prices of these products easily from many sites by simply searching from this site.   So, assume Willy wants a widget.  Willy simply goes to this site and searches for the greatest type of widget and zoom, Willy gets searches from everywhere and finds the best price and the best quality.

Backyard pruning

Willie is sitting here in the backyard having a good time and enjoying cooler weather.   The problem with doing that is willie can see the growth in the backyard.

Will you can see the bushes that he has plans to pull out.  WillyI can see the bushes that needs trimmed.  Really can see the grass needs mowed.

Hurry will  close your eyes and enjoy the cool wind.  It will all still be there tomorrow!.

Willy is Cooking up a yard!

Willy had a productive day and Willy did most of it prior to noon.   Started out by buying mulch yesterday and decided it could all be put out before dark.  Started at about 6 and by 7 Willy was tired.  

The task started again at 7 this morning.  Willy had to pull the grass and weeds from the flower beds prior to putting the mulch in the rest of the beds.  Willy had to trim the bushes and then put in the mulch.  Willy stooped, twisted, turned and knelt in the flower beds.

Willy is now sitting on the couch and wondering if he will be able to get out of bed in the morning!

Willy loves working in the yard- yea right.

Why didn't Willy go fishing?

What is Willy cooking this weekend as he takes a blog refreshing weekend to Heber Springs and the Little Red River.  Well, Willy is staying at a rustic cabin at Lindsey's Resort and there is a stove top but no oven.  This limits some of the cooking. 

However Willy's wife came to the rescue and she is pre cooking spaghetti sauce.  We will cook the noodles there and that along with some great chicken salad and some great pimento cheese for sandwiches will fill the bill.  Maybe a meal or two at the Pot O' Gold Restaurant and the weekend will be over.

IRS STEW!

Yes, this blog is mostly about cooking but with Tax day just behind us it is time for a little IRS STEW:

Ingredients:

• excessive government spending
• foreign aid every time another country sneezes
• ever increasing tax burden on the average Joe

• pork barrell budgets

You take all of this along with the fact that I just paid my taxes.
You stir it around for a year. When done you spill out your hard earned wages to pay your taxes and then you start a new pot on the stove.
Be sure and get a bigger pot because the ingredient amounts will increase next year.
